From B1 to C1 — Juan Corbí’s Journey

This week’s blog is about someone I’m incredibly proud of — Juan Corbí.

Juan has just passed his C1 exam, and not only that — he achieved a perfect score in the reading paper. At this rate, he’s ready to start reading the complete works of Shakespeare!

Where It All Started

Juan was one of my very first private students when I started working independently at Knox Business English. He was just 18 years old at the time.

When we began, his level was around a low B1. He made a lot of mistakes, lacked confidence, and, like many students, didn’t enjoy his English classes at all.

The Journey

Over time, everything changed.

We built a strong working relationship, and more importantly, a real connection. Step by step, his confidence grew. English stopped being something he had to do and became something he could actually enjoy.

Now, at 23, he speaks with confidence, engages naturally, and approaches English in a completely different way.

It’s also been a pleasure to see him grow not just as a student, but as a young man over these past few years.

A Setback… and a Comeback

Last year, we had a small disappointment.

Juan missed out on passing his C1 exam by just one point.

That kind of result can be tough. It would have been easy to give up or lose motivation. But instead, we used it as fuel.

Over the last six months, we worked hard, stayed consistent, and focused on the areas that needed improvement. We made sure that this time, there would be no doubt.

And this time — he did it.

Final Thought

Juan’s story is a perfect example of what happens when you combine:

  • consistency
  • the right approach
  • and a bit of patience

Progress in English doesn’t happen overnight — but it does happen. And when it does enjoy a guinness!
